Our Story
This venture is dedicated to my memories of growing up in NYC’s Lower East Side. My parents inspired me with their hard work and resilience, and reminded me that wherever we go, we touch the lives of others.
My mother passed on her love of sewing to me. She taught me how to thread the needle on her old Singer sewing machine, navigate the foot pedal, and sew a straight stitch. I spent weekend afternoons with her wandering through fabric stores on Orchard Street. I was mesmerized by the seemingly endless bolts of fabric on display in different prints, textures and colors, all waiting to be crafted into something beautiful and unique. After I received my first Brother machine as a gift, I turned sewing into a lifelong hobby. About ten years later, I acquired an overlock machine, and began crafting holiday gifts for friends and family.
Travels across the world, while limited in scope, have brought me to small towns and big cities, abundant in products that embody regional and cultural influences. From the embroidered handkerchiefs of Venice and the colorful kimonos of Japan, to the batik scarfs of Borneo and the hand-woven rugs of Mexico, I have come to truly appreciate the exquisite craftsmanship passed down by different cultures throughout history. Joy embodied in the creative process is heartfelt.
The path has come full circle, combining richness of experience from childhood, education, career and community into a single project: CloudHaven & Co. We love to bring focus to natural materials that are earth friendly and production processes that reduce waste. Balance between simplicity and color is captured in our designs that pay homage to tradition yet modern for today.
Thank you for being part of this adventure.
